Expert Witness For TMJ Injury

If you need an expert witness for a dental TMJ Injury case, Dr. Mark Yamamoto has the credibility and expertise that you need. Based in Southern California in Huntington Beach but with nationwide experience, Dr. Yamamoto has helped attorneys win cases for their clients. Beyond being an expert witness, he provides the very best in visual aids for an attorney like CONE BEAM CT SCANS and analysis of those visual aids.

After testifying in numerous successful cases, Dr. Yamamoto understands that injury accidents need to be recorded and documented with precision, step by step. For example, rear end accident patients often have extreme damage and need to have regular dental care throughout the process in order to establish the proper paper trail and treatment history for the records.

A recent temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ) case – where there is pain and compromised movement of the jaw joint and the surrounding muscles – involved a deposition for lawsuit against the insurance company for a commercial vehicle that injured the patient in Colorado. Every temporomandibular disorder (TMD) case where the jaw is damaged, including TMD, handled by Dr. Yamamoto is treated with expertise and genuine concern. After 30 years of treating TMJ (TMD), Dr. Yamamoto understands the emotional issues that accompany long-term cases.

Each TMD patient receives a Keynote presentation that shows the condition of the patient at the examination, a CONE BEAM CT SCAN analysis, movies of condylar displacement, and progress during the treatment period. In the recent TMJ case discussed above, the treatment was so complicated that two Keynote presentations were used. Dr. Yamamoto is ready to provide whatever is needed for each specific case in terms of expert testimony.

The attorney for the patient had Dr. Yamamoto construct a 2ft x 3ft poster that showed the condylar bone damage. The latest techniques of CONE BEAM CT SCANS were used in conjunction with consultations about the case with the best CONE BEAM radiologists in the medical field. Dr. Yamamoto’s deposition lasted over 2 ½ hours and both attorneys were present.

About 1 month later, the patient called to tell Dr. Yamamoto that the insurance company settled out of court. She was very happy and thanked the doctor for his help as an expert witness. Both she and her lawyer were impressed by how effective his testimony was in proving TMJ injury. All of her future TMJ treatment, including needed orthodontics, will be paid in full.

A keynote presentation is executed for every TMJ case. Serving a dual purpose, the keynote presentation is used to explain the problem to the patient while also demonstrating how the treatment plan will be implemented. As the treatment is performed, photos are taken and notes are added to the patient’s history as represented in the keynote presentation.

In addition, follow-up CONE BEAM CT SCANS are used to show the bone healing. Such follow-ups further reveals to the patient how he or she is healing, thus helping to address the emotional issues as well by demonstrating positive progress. CONE BEAM CT SCANS are a useful teaching aid for dentists studying TMJ problems. They also provide a great visual aid for attorneys as they face the challenge of proving a patient’s TMJ injury in a courtroom.
